Amagit.COM is a distributed search engine project. In other words, computers from all around the world collectively create the database that powers its search engine. To contribute, simply download the software below, start it up, and let it run. It will do all the work for you. Simply close the program when you are done contributing.
If you have a cause to promote, you can also gain free advertising alongside Amagit.COM search results. Advertising is granted to users based on amount of participation. See Amagit.COM's legal agreement for full details.
The distributed software is not designed to use up all of your computer's resources. Instead, it is supposed to run slowly, mostly unnoticed. Run the client as you go about your other work. I greatly appreciate your contributions and just hope that many continue to help. The amount of data that you individually send to Amagit.COM is not as important. Our big breakthrough is in sight.
Active Client - download this version if you want to earn advertising credits - it is faster - it allows you to gain advertising credits - you can run multiple instances of it to crawl the web even more quickly
Passive Client - download this version if you just want to contribute to my global project - it is slower - it is even less likely to disrupt your work than the active client
How do I install the client software? Download the file above to your desktop and run it. There is no installation process. This application consists of only the above program file.
How do I remove the client software? Delete the program file that you originally downloaded. The distributed client leaves no other traces on your computer.
What kinds of data does the distributed client collect? The distributed client first downloads a list of web-page addresses from the main server. Then, it begins to download those individual web-pages. As the client continues to download web-pages, previously downloaded web-pages are parsed and condensed into data usable by Amagit.COM. The data is sent back to Amagit.COM in chunks, and all data is eventually integrated into the main index and made live through the Amagit.COM search engine. As web-page lists are completed, new lists are downloaded by the client. Ideally, if enough people contribute, the Amagit.COM index can grow to a size worthy of competition in the search engine market.
Is this software safe? Why is my anti-virus program freaking out? This distributed software was designed on Microsoft's .NET Framework and the Mono Platform and is perfectly safe. However, it does connect to the Internet and download copies of many different web files so that they may be reported back to Amagit.COM and added into the search index. Some of those files might actually be dangerous in other circumstances, like if they were executed or accessed through a web browser, but they cannot harm you through the distributed client because it only scans their contents. Therefore, the distributed client, although your anti-virus may occasionally say otherwise, is completely safe.
How do I run the distributed client on Linux? Download and install Mono for Linux. Download the Linux version of the distributed client. Open a command line of some kind and run the following command from the folder that contains the distributed client: mono "PROGRAM_NAME.exe"
How do I run the distributed client on a Mac? Download and install Mono for Mac. Download the Mac version of the distributed client. Open a command line of some kind and run the following command from the folder that contains the distributed client: mono "PROGRAM_NAME.exe"
